RUN WORKSHOP DETAILS

Understanding pacing and the right cadence is the first thing we want to teach our running athletes. We start with slow tempo runs so they can get a feel for speeding up slowly as you get warmer and in a groove. The emphasis on the first few tempo runs is teaching them how to track their own pace and cadence so they can execute their running program at home.

Later in the program they will lead the tempo runs and keep us (the coach) on pace. Our job is to just be their to motivate them.

Details

Address: Payne Park (2010 Adams Ln, Sarasota, FL 34237)

Dates: Jan 31st, Feb 14th, March 7th, 21st, 28th

Skill work: Teaching them what a tempo run is and how to track it on their watch. Later in the program teaching them leadership and having them lead tempo runs.

Workshop Layout

3:15-3:30pm: Dynamic warm up

3:30-4pm or 4:45: Tempo run

4:45-5:00pm: Cool down

400m sprint workouts are early in the training protocol when volume is lower and are always done with a coach. The purpose of these workshops is to teach them what it feels like to give maximum effort. We also want them to feel what it's like to experience exhaustion, so it doesn't make them nervous or uncomfortable later in the program.

The times of their 400m sprints will give us an idea of their best 1 mile time and where to begin their pacing.

Details

Address: Payne Park (2010 Adams Ln, Sarasota, FL 34237)

Dates: Feb. 7th & 21st

Skill work: Finding their max effort pace, teaching run form, getting them to give maximum effort and to push themselves mentally.

Workshop Layout

3:15-3:30pm: Dynamic warm up

3:30-4pm: Sprints

4-4:15pm: Cool down

This test gives our coaches a good idea of where the running athlete is mentally and physically. this test is the first time our running athlete will feel what it's like to push themselves later in a run and to make sure they proprly pace themselves early on. We will use the time from this test and try to help them keep this same pace or increase it for 13.1 miles. This gives the athlete and coach a common goal to work towards together!

Details

Address: TBD

Date: March 12th

Skill work: Proper starting pace, when to step up the pace, and how to push hard for the last mile. Create a commonm goal between the athlete and coach.

Workshop Layout

7:00-7:15am: Dynamic warmup

7:30-8:45am: 10K run test

8:45-9:00am: Cool down and set a common goal moving forward

The biggest test during their training protocol. This is the first time they will experience what the race will feel like. Today is all about building confidence, showing lots of love, and making it FUN.

They've been working so hard and we want them to leave this test proud for finishing. this will keep them mentally motivated to keep pushing and show up to race day ready! As a coach we will use the time from this test to set a common goal for race day and change around the pacing to make sure they beat this test time on race day.

Details

Address: TBD

Date: April 2nd

Skill work: No skills to learn here. We want to make this experience a fun and motivating one. We will set a common goal for race day based on their run test time

Workshop Layout

7:00-7:15am: Dynamic warmup

7:30-9:45am: 1/2 marathon run test

9:45-10:00am: Cool down and set a common goal for race day

Now that they are leading runs and understanding how to follow their pacing and cadence we want to teach them how to run inclines and declines to conserve energy. We will run up and down the bridge back and forth for 5 miles.

Details

Address: Ringling Bridge (John Ringling Causeway, Sarasota, FL 34236)

Dates: April 4th, 11th, 18th

Skill work: We want to teach them to focus more on cadence and not pace during inclines to save energy. Show them to run with the decline to make up time, but to also save their knees and legs from decelerating to much.

Workshop Layout

3:15-3:30pm: Dynamic warm up

3:30-4pm: 2.5 miles and then rest for 10 min

4:10-4:45pm: 2.5 miles

4:45-5:00pm: Cool down

These long runs are to build confidence and comfort within these long runs. One of these runs will be done in a big group so they can experience running with prople around them.

The goal is to keep a comfortable pace that is close to their race pace.

Details

Address: TBD

Date: April 9th & 23rd

Skill work: Let them lead the pacing and cue them on when to slow down or speed up to keep building on the foundational skills we've taught them.

7:30-9:20am: Long run

9:20-10:00am: Cool down and stretch
