WHAT IS THE B3 PROGRAM?

What is the B3 program?

The Boarders Breaking Barriers (B3) program is a three week inclusive skateboard series totaling 7 workshops/15 hours and is open to individuals ages 7+. This one of its kind, progression-based program is led by partnering organizations, Adventure for All and The 180 House.

Your athlete will be partnered up with a 180 House skateboard mentor throughout the entire program making this experience much more than learning a skill.

We proudly welcome participants of all abilities and skill levels.

- Autism Spectrum Disorder (ASD)
- Down syndrome
- Williams syndrome
- ADHD

HOW IS THE COURSE RUN?

How is the course run?

We start with meeting each participant where they are while providing them with an environment that will best support their experience.

We understand every participant progresses, thrives, and responds to direction differently. Right away, the B3 program's top priority is to establish a strong foundational framework for trust and confidence.
 
Our coaches and mentors collaborate to provide a customized skateboarding plan to best fit each athlete's needs.

The B3 program also offers a mentor match, allowing for inclusive, peer relationships to be at the forefront of the B3 program's success.

AFA's B3 program is much more than skateboarding. Balance focused sports like skateboarding have been proven to have an abundance of benefits for individuals with intellectual and/or developmental exceptionalities.

For example, research has demonstrated an increase in physical balance, focus, leg strength, endurance, and improved motor skills. However, this skatebaording porgram is much more than physical activity. There are many proven social-emotional advantages such as gaining independence, building confidence, improving communication, and developing stronger coping skills within the duration of this program.

Bonus:

After graduating this program each athlete has the opportunity to continue to skateboard at the 180 house once a week! If you'd like more details on this let us know.

Program costs?

- $420 one time payment
- $500 two separate payments (50% today to lock in your athletes spot & another 50% by the end of the first week)

AFA will provide the following equipment during the program:

- Skateboard
- Helmet
- Gloves
- B3 T-shirt
- For all participating athletes we do have a 40% discount code if you'd like to purchase elbow/knee pads for your athlete.

ADVENTURE COACHES

AFA'S adventure coaches:

- Have a respected degree and/or certification that directly applies to the services they are providing

- All of our Head AFA Coaches have respected degrees and/or up-to-date certifications that directly apply to the services we are providing. Our diverse and qualified team has extensive training within our respective fields and all have ample experience working with individuals with exceptionalities.

- In the last 2 years our coaches have achieved a 100% success rate with all our adventure athletes, allowing them to graduate into another program to continue their adventure journey full of growth

- First Aid/CPR certified

QUESTIONS & ANSWERS

How many applicants are accepted into this program?:

  • Answer - This program accepts 10 adventure athletes and their families.

Do I have to pay for the program in one payment?:

  • Answer - No, you can pay it in 2 installments. The first one being due 14 days before the program. The final payment will be due by the 4th workshop of the program.

Can the date of workshops change?:

  • Answer - The only way we will reschedule a workshop is if it is rained out.
  • We only reschedule 1 workshop. If more than 1 are cancelled because of weather we will refund you for one of the workshops ($60)

What is the coach to athlete ratio?:

  • Answer - 1:1 for this program because each athlete is partnred with a dedicated 180 House mentor
  • Answer - 2-3 AFA coaches at each workshop

What level of athleticism is required by the athlete?:

  • Answer - This program is a Tier 1/2 program and is avaialbe for all skills/levels

What is the weekly time committment?:

  • Answer - On average between workshops and at home practice it is around 5 hours a week without drive time.

Our B3 program is all about team work!

Each adventure athlete will be partnering up & befriending a 180 House peer mentor. In this program each athlete will be given an individualized progression plan based on their current skill level.

This progressional process allows our athlete's to gain a sense of belonging and the belief that they can accomplish anything they set their mind too. Guiding them to experience small victories and accomplishments inspires them to continue taking on challenges that develop self growth.

In 2023 we will be hosting this program 3 times. AFA and the 180 house believe challenges and obstacles are necessary for human growth and development;

Throughout this program, each and every athlete will advance in skateboarding, socio-emotional connection, and belief in themself!
